Tradition and Values

We build upon the centuries-old forestry tradition of the Kinský dal Borgo family, which has managed its forest lands around Chlumec nad Cidlinou for generations, precisely since 1626 when our ancestor received the Chlumec estate from Eperor Ferdinand II Habsburg.

There are few families that can pride themselvees with such a long and continued legacy of managing and caring for the forest.  Our rich history demonstrates a deep connection with the landscape and a responsible approach to its use.

Proven methods and valuable knowledge passed down from generation to generation are the foundation of the trust and reliability that sets us apart.

Our History

In 1992, Václav Norbert Kinský regained the family estate through restitution, including Karlova Koruna Chateau, the Obora hunting lodge, and extensive forest areas. Immediately after the restitution, he began the long work of restoration. In 1998, a timber handling warehouse was built, and three years later, in 2001, the Kinský sawmill was founded as a natural extension of our forest management. After the death of Václav Norbert in 2008, the estate was taken over by his sons Giovanni and Pio Kinský dal Borgo.

Today, the sawmill combines family tradition with modern technology, supports the local economy, and emphasizes quality, responsibility, and respect for both nature and the region.

Polabian Oak

A significant part of the natural wealth managed by Kinský sawmill is the Polabian oak, which has been growing for centuries in the family’s forests in the Elbe lowlands. This wood is highly valued among carpenters and timber processors for its durability and aesthetic qualities. It is characterized by high density, strength, and a minimal proportion of sapwood. Thanks to its exceptional properties, it has wide application in interiors as well as in construction, and its popularity continues to grow.

Managing for the Next Generations

At Kinský dal Borgo sustainable forest management is a logical consequence of our everyday work in the forest, simply because we have been doing it for hundreds of years. The statement “Kinský Forests are a sustainable source of wood” is not an empty slogan but a reflection of the deeply rooted philosophy of the Kinský family, which has managed its land for generations with profound respect for nature and the landscape. The diversity and vitality of our forests confirm that logging activities can take place together with a care for the ecosystem and its natural regeneration.

Sustainable Energy for the Future

At Kinský sawmill we strive to obtain a production cycle with as little waste as possible. This is why we try to re-use as much of the by-products generated during the production of our timber products. We use the bark from the processed logs to operate our drying kilns and also heat the entire sawmill, the sawdust from the cutting of the logs is collected and used to produce our heating briquettes. We also reduce the energy demands of our operations by generating our own electricity from solar panels.

The Forest and Sawmill: a Winning Cooperation

The fact that we own our own forests and can therefore maintain a stable volume of timber harvesting provide the Kinský sawmill with a strong market position and ensure it is a reliable business partner. Our sustainable forest management, as well as our regenerative approach guarantee the long-term availability of high-quality timber. The combination of a high volume of production with environmental responsibility represents a solid foundation for establishing a long term mutually beneficial cooperation.
